Post #3 A Word from Jay Heinrichs

Hey, AP Lang kids!  A little while ago I emailed Jay (I call him that now that we’re Email pals even though he was just being polite and responded to my Email), and he sent me the message below (by the way, I’m talking about Jay Heinrichs, the author of Thank You For Arguing):

 Mr. Heinrichs,

I teach AP Language and Composition at Daegu International School. Last summer my sister suggested your book, and I’ve decided to make it part of my 2014-2015 class’s mandatory summer reading. You do a marvelous job of explaining the basics of logic. I might, though, have to dedicate some time to the pop culture references.

To be blunt, I just want a free hard copy (I bought a kindle copy). I figure with my purchase and about fifteen more (that’s about the size of the class), I might merit it. 🙂

Sincerely,

Phil Hinkle

Hi, Philip, sorry about the late reply. Not sure whether the publisher mails to South Korea; but I’m copying Leila Lee of Random House.  Keep in mind that I offer free Skype-ins or Google Hangouts to classes that adopt Thank You for Arguing. Great fun.

Meanwhile, please let your fellow educators know. We need to spread the rhetorical gospel!

All best,
Jay

Don’t expect to see many postings by me.  This blog is meant mainly as a way for me to praise my students.  And how, pray tell, might I do that?  Well, every now and then, I will post the most prized pieces of blog writings I receive from my students as part of their nearly weekly blog assignments.

In the meantime, here’s one of my favorite artists for you to enjoy:
